Metamorphosis Updates

Updates for the following versions are available:

Metamorphosis version 4.007

Version 4's new features include:

  • Saving and reusing screens by placing them into content libraries.
  • Greater control over the display of the user interface.
  • Likert (slider) questions as a new question type.
  • The ability to import PowerPoint presentations as a series of images.
  • Importing and playing Flash Video (FLV) within your lesson.
  • New glossary functionality means you can create an interactive glossary from Word (or, if you prefer, manually).
  • Table editing has been improved.
  • Images may have dynamic animation effects applied to them.

Version 4.007: fixes an issue with the web-database published output requiring three credentials for sign in irrespective of how many are set.

Version 4.006: fixes an issue with imported text from Word docs overflowing, and also includes some stability improvements.

Version 4.005: allows the window contents to display in a better fashion when the window is resized, and it fixes a bug in parts ID questions where there is more than one area that needs to be "found" by the user.

Version 4.004: addresses the issue with the Import pane's menu-based course topic's Assessable Questions checkboxes state not always being written correctly when the course was published.

Version 4.003: addresses: the Import pane's linear course 'All questions are assessable' checkbox state not "sticking"; improved compatibility with the SumTotal LMS; and, removed "rogue" double quotes from the end of some question stems.

Version 4.002 updates 1: an issue with storing individual question data to the Comet LMS when the questions are set to automatically progress to the next screen was resolved.

Version 4.002 addresses an issue with the imsmanifest.xml file of a SCORM 1.2 LMS published project not being properly recognised by the LMS.

Version 4.001 addresses issues with font sizing, with imported PowerPoint screens as images where the PowerPoint screen is set to a non-standard size, and with some minor errors in two of the themes.

NOTES:

  1. To install and activate this upgrade you have to specifically purchase a license for it or to have a current and valid support contract in place.
  2. This installation uses the same graphics library as the full version of version 3. Version 4 will not work with the graphics library from version 2 or earlier. Some users who updated to version 3 are still using the version 2 library, and will therefore need to update their library for version 4.
  3. After installing Metamorphosis 4 you will need to point it to your existing graphics library via the menu item: File > Preferences > Set graphics library location...
  4. Once this install is complete you will need to (re)activate Metamorphosis.
  5. Any custom themes you may have will need to be updated to work with Metamorphosis 4.
  6. If you have a custom theme for Metamorphosis version 4 prior to version 4.005 then the theme will need a small amount of work to make it compatible with Metamorphosis version 4.005. Click here for details.
  7. If you have Comet, update to the latest version to ensure compatibility.

Warning: Saving/editing a project created with the most current version of Metamorphosis with an older version of Metamorphosis may result in the project being corrupted. Be careful when opening projects. If you're unsure, launch the appropriate version of Metamorphosis first and then open your project from it. Generally, it is good practice to wait until you have completed your current project(s) before you upgrade/update. Projects are forwards, not backwards, compatible.

Metamorphosis version 3.404 Update 2

Version 3's new features include:

  • You can now retain the fonts and formatting of your source Word documents rather than allowing Metamorphosis to over-ride the formatting.
  • PowerPoint importation is now more accurate. PowerPoint slide shows can be part of your linear and menu-based courses.
  • The improved Metamorphosis editor allows you to manipulate screen objects more easily.
  • There is now greater flexibility when generating the main menu for your courseware.
  • A new question type provides for True/False questions.
  • A new question type allows questions generated with 3rd party tools, such as Adobe Flash, to be imported into Metamorphosis such that the Metamorphosis lesson can track whether the Flash question has been answered correctly or not.
  • Match the pairs questions can now include images, as well as text.
  • The ability to create remediation - when a user answers a number of questions wrongly they enter a subtopic not displayed to those that do well.

Version 3.404 Update 2: an issue with storing individual question data to the Comet LMS when the questions are set to automatically progress to the next screen was resolved.

This upgrade is recommended for all users of version 3.

Version 3.404 addresses the issue where projects that were created with older versions of MM had content files, where necessary, copied and the names "sanitised" but the original files were not deleted.

Version 3.403 Update 2 addresses the issue where SCORM 2004 4th Edition requires that external metadata files have a fully qualified namespace for the metadata to be read.

Version 3.403 Update 1 addresses an issue with true false questions and an SCORM 2004 compatible LMS.

Version 3.402 addresses a number of issues and includes a number of improvements.

Version 3.302 update 1 fixed an apparent corruption on the previous installer that prevented printing from the final performance screen of a publish project.

Version 3.302 addresses an issue with paths to media and other externally sourced content. With 3.3, imported content has web-unfriendly characters in file names stripped. Unfortunately it also stripped them from file paths making the file impossible to locate.

Version 3.3 addresses a number of issues and includes a number of other improvements.

Version 3.022 addresses an issue with multiple links in the same text object not always pointing to the correct file.

Update 1 to 3.02 includes a fix for Comet published projects not communicating correctly with Comet. The script files for Comet have been merged with the normal Metamorphosis script file - so that increases in functionality to Metamorphosis can be more quickly, accurately and robustly incorporated in Comet.

The update also addresses a number of other issues and is recommended for all users.

Version 3.02 has:

  • Improved text editing within the Edit pane.
  • Direct access to a larger subset of the learning object metadata.
  • Added more tolerance to the software's activation under severe local security restrictions.
  • Fixed a bug with LMS-published projects that were automatically opened in new windows by the LMS giving an error.
  • Addressed some minor layout issues introduced with the release of Internet Explorer 8.
  • Allowed you to correctly set single correct option multiple choice questions to not behave as radio buttons.
  • Complete the Paragraph questions no longer incorrectly resizing overly large options.
  • Made the Parts ID question more stable.
  • Fixed a bug with hyperlinks not retaining their scope.

Version 3.01 now activates on a per user basis. The main advantage of this is that Admin privileges are no longer required for activation. Also new in 3.01 is: remediation; YouTube support; improved Parts ID question...

Version 3.002 fixes apparent corruption in previous installer and fixes an issue with the previewing of the main menu and updates the text instructions on the decryptor.

Version 3.001 fixes an issue with file naming on Unix-based web servers.

  4. Once this install is complete you will need to (re)activate Metamorphosis.
  5. If you are updating you may need to point Metamorphosis to your existing graphics library, when you first run Metamorphosis. Version 3 includes thousands of new images. If you do not have the Version 3 image library on CD Rom and you have a valid support contract, please contact us to organise a link for you to download the new library. Be aware that the download is almost 500 MB in size.

Metamorphosis version 2.013 update 10

Version 2's new features include:

Version 2.013 update 10: corrects an issue with assessment scoring as displayed to users.

Version 2.013 update 9: the sending of individual interaction data has been disabled when an LMS cannot receive it (due to the data model elements being unsupported).

Version 2.013 update 8: fixes an issue with file naming on Unix-based web servers.

Version 2.013 update 7: fixes an issue with the recording of responses of free form text entry questions in PHP web-published lessons.

Version 2.013 update 6: fixes an issue with fill-in-the-blank questions when the answer(s) include spaces; addresses the lack of transparency in a few buttons; reverses a minor database issue we introduced in ASP-published lessons in update 5; and, made sure that the sign in screens didn't need to be scrolled if the lesson's main content uses large(st) sized font.

Version 2.013 update 5: fixes an issue with questions that allow users multiple attempts to answer.

Version 2.013 update 4: fixes an issue with running an LMS-published lesson in a SCORM LMS which displays the lesson within a frame.

Version 2.013 update 3: uses a new/better way of displaying WMV video; should more accurately locate the SCORM API adaptor; and, adds support for Acrobat 9.

Version 2.013 update 2 includes updated PHP ADO database libraries and a bug fix for storing free form text entry question responses to web-based databases.

Version 2.013 has a some stability improvements and now allows you to display the user's ID in the Final Performance Screens (FPS) as well as allowing the LMS-published version to read the user's name and ID for display in the FPS. Note, the FPS screen variable for a user's ID is {userid}.

Version 2.012a has a fix for a (persistent) bug with resuming in web-published courses.

Version 2.012 has a fix for a bug with resuming in web-published courses, and it allows for LMS that automatically open SCORM courses in a new window.

Version 2.011 has a fix for a bug we introduced to FPS in 2.01.

Version 2.01 includes publishing for Comet, free form test entry questions...

Version 2.002 fixes a bug in previewing and adds wmode for SWF (flash) files.

Version 2.001 includes improvements to previewing.

Version 2.000a fixes a problem with window sizes in the browser Opera 9+.

  4. If you are installing you may need to point Metamorphosis to your existing graphics library, when you first run Metamorphosis.
  5. To reduce the chance of incompatibilities with version 1 co-installed with version 2 some changes have been made with this update which will, most likely, mean that you will need to reactivate Metamorphosis (using the same key from earlier version 2 activations - if available). For this reason you will need to log in as an Administrator to install/activate.
  6. To take advantage of the new 'resume' capability the MS Access database that Metamorphosis uses has had a change to the data type of one of the fields:
    • Database: mph.mdb
    • Table: table1
    • Field: CourseNotes
    • Data Type: Memo
    This also affects new published Metamorphosis course used with existing databases.

    If you are using a different database vendor (e.g. mySQL) then you'll need to change the data type to one that is equivalent to MS Access's Memo data type.

  7. You may need to re-enter your activation code when you first run Metamorphosis - you will need to log in as an Administrator to do this.

Metamorphosis version 1 - Cumulative Update 15 includes all the version 1 updates released to date. The fixes and changes since update 5 are included:

  • Updating Metamorphosis to version 1.102
  • Speeding up of the handling of text objects
  • Scripting errors when the course description includes carriage returns
  • Scripting errors when custom question feedback is created
  • Invalid CDATA tags in the IMSmanifest.xml file with LMS published projects
  • The HTA displaying the wrong system icon
  • Projects with links that have had their targets deleted failing to publish
  • Importing a document into the root level of a multi-topic project causing Metamorphosis to fail (because the project now had more than 24 topics.)
  • Update to the ADODB PHP libraries
  • The flickering of background images in Internet Explorer
  • Errors with on-screen drawn rectangular, filled shapes
  • Start screen elements marked as "not to be shown" still being shown
  • Intermittent bug in the PHP version with values posted from a form
  • JSON (a lightweight data transfer mechanism) javascript bug resolved
  • Resolves a bug with the "resume" utility.
  • Some minor changes to facilitate the modifications to the 'Additional Features' utility.

Update 11 addresses an issue where, under certain circumstances, the contents of the entire publish folder gets deleted when you change the publish folder from its default location and then try to publish.

Update 12 addresses a small number of minor issues.

Update 13, includes some minor stability improvements and other minor fixes.

Update 14 allows the setting of SWF (flash) file's wmode, using a utility, to work in non-Internet Explorer browsers.

This update, update 15, fixes a problem with window sizes in the browser Opera 9+.

WARNING: projects opened with this version will no longer open with versions earlier than 1.100.

Note that it is considered good practice to not update mid-project - unless your project is currently experiencing problems. That is, if you are not having any problems do not update until you have completed your current project(s).
